July 31 – Violence, a Sallusto & Albina yearling purchase, was represented by two more promising first crop winners on Sunday, July 30. The Grade 1-winning son of Medaglia d’Oro now ranks second in his crop by winners (8) and progeny earnings.
Private Vigilante became first crop winner #7 for Violence with his smart wire-to-wire debut performance over a good Maiden Special field at Ellis Park. Trained by Steve Asmusen, the colt cruised past the wire three lengths in front covering the five furlongs in a sparkling :58.14. He was purchased at the Keeneland September yearling sale for $180,000.
Later that afternoon at Del Mar, Poetic came from off the pace to capture her debut over eight Maiden Special rivals. The filly races in the colors of Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm and hails from the barn of Hall of Famer Richard Mandella. She too was purchased at last year’s Keeneland September auction, commanding a final bid of $220,000. That figure made her the fourth highest-selling filly in Violence’s intitial yearling crop.
Among the other early winners by Violence are the filly Buy Sell Hold, already a stakes winner over males, and Quivery a two-time winner in England.
Violence was purchased by bloodstock agents Nick Sallusto & Hanzly Albina at the 2011 Keeneland September sale. He went on to capture a pair of graded races, including the CashCall Futurity (G1), a victory that established him as one of the early 2013 Kentucky Derby favorites.
Violence now stands at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms stallion station in Kentucky.
