July 7 – Royal Inheritance scored a game victory over Allowance foes at Belmont Park, her third triumph in four starts.
“(She’s) a very nice filly,” commented jockey Manuel Franco after the race.
Purchased by Sallusto & Albina at last year’s Fasig-Tipton May Two-Year-Old in Training auction, Royal Inheritance broke her maiden at first asking by 3 1/2 lengths at Aqueduct on December 4. She then ran a troubled second in a May 7 Allowance at Belmont before returning to the winner’s circle with an easy tally on June 1.
Royal Inheritance is trained by David Cannizzo and races in the colors of owner Joseph Bulger. The three-year-old filly by Regal Ransom has competed exclusively in sprint races and has now bankrolled $124,400, nearly four times her purchase price.
A Stakes start at the upcoming Saratoga meetings seems likely for Royal Inheritance. Races like the John Morrissey Stakes on July 27 or Union Avenue Stakes on August 17, where she would face older New York-bred fillies and mares, are possible. The open Saratoga schedule for sophmore filly sprinters includes fixtures like the August 5 Test Stakes (G1) and Prioress Stakes (G2) over Labor Day weekend.
