Bloodstock agents Nick Sallusto and Hanzly Albina have purchased several future stakes stars at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearling Sale. They struck again on October 2, purchasing a very promising Bodemeister filly for $140,000.
The filly was part of a three-horse Audley Farm consignment, their first public offering in over 20 years. The farm is best known as the breeders of the sensational Bodemeister, winner of the Arkansas Derby (G1) and runner-up in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in 2012. He’s now a rising young stallion and the sire of this year’s Derby hero Always Dreaming.
Sold as Hip 28, the filly will race in the colors of longtime Sallusto & Albina client Newton Anner Stud. She’s out of the mare Pink Champagne, a graded stakes-winning daughter of Awesome Again.
“We had high expectations for the filly.” said Audley Farm’s equine manager Jamie McDiarmid. “I thought that she was a beautifully-lined filly, and she was all class the whole week. We had a lot of action on her and everybody seemed to love her and she showed great.”
Sallusto & Albina have purchased the likes of multiple stakes winners Trooper John and Mike’sgoodandtough at Maryland’s premier yearling auction. Trooper John reeled off five straight stakes victories before game seconds in the 2017 Canadian Derby (G3) and British Columbia Derby (G3).
