An Exciting Group of September Yearlings

Yearlings bred and raised by Sallusto & Albina for Newton Anner Stud were the talk of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling auction last month. Among that group was the $750,000 filly session one topper by Curlin and the highest-priced City Zip yearling of the sale at $325,000. Another strong group of Newton Anner-breds will be offered at the Keeneland September sale. All sell with Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services.

Colt by Kitten’s Joy – Forbidden Kiss by Touch Gold
A colt by perennial leading sire Kitten’s Joy out of the multiple stakes producer Forbidden Kiss, a daughter Belmont winner Touch Gold (by Deputy Minister). Kitten’s Joy has sired a trio of blacktype winners with Deputy Minister-line dams. This also colt carries a double of Roberto (at 4×4), a pattern that’s been wildly successful for Kitten’s Joy. At least 17 of his stakes winners are out of mares returning Roberto, including more than half of his Grade 1 winners.

Colt by Paynter – Kateri by Indian Charlie
By promising first-year sire Paynter, one of 14 Grade 1 winners by Awesome Again. The Awesome Again/Indian Charlie cross has proven very effective with three different Awesome Again sons having sired blacktype winners out of mares by Indian Charlie. Among those is the Grade 2 winner Gypsy Robin (by Daaher) and the current unbeaten two-year-old stakes winner Dak Attack (by Ghostzapper). The larger Awesome Again/Caro cross has produced at least six other stakes winners, inlcuding Grade 1 winner Toccet.

Filly by Scat Daddy – Akris Queen by Arch 
A filly from the last crop by Scat Daddy, sire of an incredible 22 worldwide G1 winners (and counting). This filly has plenty of strenght on the female side of her pedigree as well. Her young dam is a sister to a trio of blacktype winners and an additional blacktype producer. She’s also by Arch, whose daughters are producing blacktype winners at a nearly 7% clip. And they’ve produced some very important runners too. Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner/super sire Uncle Mo and Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another, are among the Grade 1 winners out of mares by Arch.

Colt by Bodemeister – Alina by Came Home
A colt by 2017 Kentucky Derby sire Bodemeister, a grandson of the great Unbridled. Came Home daughters have done especially well when bred to Unbridled-line stallions with three blacktype winners from just 19 starters (16%). This colt’s dam is certainly passing her high racing class on to her offspring as her first four foals are all winners, including Group winner/Breeders’ Cup-placed Nemoralia
